Implementation of LDCs Programme of Action
and Poverty Eradication
II – MAIN OBJECTIVES OF
THE CONFERENCE
-
consider progresses achieved in the implementation of
LDCs Programme of Action particularly actions of development
stakeholders as regard their commitments;
-
tackle LDCs concerns as part of the follow up of the
major world events including the WTO Ministerial Meeting
in Doha and the Monterrey Conference on Development
Financing;
-
address LDCs issues and concerns within the framework
of the coming international meetings, particularly the
World Summit on Sustainable Development, the 57 th Session
of the United Nations General Assembly and the 13 th
Session of the LDCs Ministers of Foreign Affairs;
-
consider progress achieved relating to the monitoring
of the provisions of the Brussels Programme of Action
adopted in May 2001;
-
testify the official duty assumption by Benin on the
political and diplomatic levels as Chairman of LDCs
Coordinating Body.
I – SUBJECT MATTERS TO BE ADDRESSED
The Conference will be held at the International
conference Center of Cotonou. It will consist of debates
and views exchanges during plenary sessions on the following
subjects :
-
Programme of Action meant for LDCs, a year after : outcomes,
obstacles and means envisaged;
-
The ‘’Monterrey Consensus’’
and the financing of the implementation of LDCs Programme
of Action;
-
The Outcomes of the WTO ministerial Conference in Doha;
what lessons drawn by LDCs ?
-
The United Nations Equipment Funds (FENU) as a tool
for development and implementation of the Programme
of Action for LDCs;
-
Combat against desertification and poverty eradication
in LDCs.
Each
of these subjects will be presented as a paper.
