Presentation
of the Final Report of
the Cotonou Ministerial Conference
The final report of the Cotonou three-day Ministerial
Conference was presented by his Excellency Mr Kolawolé
A. IDJI, the Benin Minister of Foreign Affairs and African
Integration.
According to the report, the Conference gathered delegates
from thirty seven (37) Least Developed Countries as
well as Representatives from twenty two (22) regional
and United Nations Institutions. After the opening Ceremony
presided over by His Excellency General Mathieu KEREKOU,
the delegates from the 37 Countries in attendance elected
by acclamation the Conference Bureau chaired by His
Excellency Mr Bruno AMOUSSOU, the Benin Minister of
State in Charge of Coordinating Governmental Action,
Prospects and Development.
The Conference proceedings per say were made of plenary
sessions whereby participants exchanged views on the
six papers that were presented.
Following the debates that ensued, the delegates adopted
a declaration tagged “Cotonou Declaration”
.
In this declaration, they reaffirmed their commitments
as taken during the third United Nations Conference
on LDC’s and made recommendations in relation
to the implementation of Brussels Declaration.
Moreover, the said Declaration calls upon all LDC’s
to fully support Benin in its tenure of office as Chairman
of LDC’s Coordination Bureau.
Rounding up the meeting, participants made a vote of
thanks to the people and the Government of Benin to
which they expressed their sincere gratitude and appreciation
for their warm and kind hospitality and the excellent
quality of the organisation put in place.
